Chinese New Year 2016 Animal

According to the traditional Chinese luni-solar calendar, one year comprises of 12 months of 29 or 30 days. To plot this with respect to the length of the solar year, minor alterations are made.

The years are believed to be arranged in cycles of 60, and each successive year is named after an animal. This system of assigning an animal to a year finds mention in Chinese folklore and mythology. 2016 is the Year of the Sheep. It is believed that a person born in any year has characteristics similar to the animal that heads the year.
